Nursing students assist with health monitoring, food and
nutrition, crafts, music and group learning activities.
Emotions run deep when the program ends, but as we
look ahead to the next class, the memories we made
together will always be with us. Our appreciation and
thanks go out to all who have participated over the years.
HORIZON clients regularly share inter-generational
activities with area church youth groups and the
Gleamnes Preschool programs.

In Reality - A few student Reflections are shared below:
Serving and Learning Together...

- "I have chosen the healthcare field as a profession and nowhere else is there a greater need than caring for the elderly & disabled. This Service Learning project has helped me make a very important decision about my profession. Volunteering is a way to make this world a much better place." - L.S. Orangeburg
- "I think this project has changed me because now think I will offer to volunteer more often when and where I can. Volunteering is something everyone should experience, if just for a little while." - C.P. Lexington
- "This project made me realize that volunteering doesn't have to be boring. I think more people should offer to volunteer because it's the best way to give back for all that we have as healthy people and sometimes take for granted." - V.H. Columbia
- "I learned a lot from doing this project. Most of all, it helped me realize I am who I am because of what I can give and share with others - not what I can get or already have. This also gave me a feeling of satisfaction." - R.G. Swansea
- "My Service Learning project was working with the mentally challenged. It helped me to know that I don't have to be afraid of them because they are not normal. I learned the importance of social interaction. Community service activity helps make you aware of needs and opportunities to serve others." - L.B. Columbia
